Hi, I'm Teacher Honey! When I was in the Philippines, I’ve taught English to students grades 1 to 3 in a Montessori
School for two years. Then, I transferred to a public junior high school where I’ve taught
Science, Handicrafts, and Cookery. My teaching style would be learning by doing by Maria
Montessori. Students learn best when they were able to experience authentic and useful
materials that they can use in their daily life. I make sure to prepare lesson plans in
advance, have a meeting with my co-teachers, create fun and engaging lessons using
Kahoot, Wordwall, and Canva.
I discovered that students have different learning styles and intelligences. So, I carefully
design my lessons that will suit their needs and abilities. For fast learner students, I
usually ask questions to let them think about how to solve a problem or let them share
their ideas in class. I let them use the English language to speak out their thoughts. Fast
learner students are encouraged to help slow learners in my class so no one is left behind.
For slow learner students, some effective ways for them to learn are through pictures,
body language, speaking in a slow pace, let them listen and repeat after the teacher and
a lot of practice to make it perfect. I also have one on one tutorial if some students find it
difficult to catch up in class. It is very important that my students are given a chance to
try their best and discover their talents in class. We also have listening, reading, writing,
and speaking practice. I encourage them that speaking English can make them confident
when they are speaking to a foreigner, travelling, and studying in a foreign country in the
future.
I created some educational videos on Youtube. I also teach my students how to make
their own educational videos that can help everyone learn English. In my class, they can
read English stories, write their thoughts about a topic, have an oral presentation, sing
and dance to English songs and enjoy learning English through winter and summer
camps.
My previous head teacher said that I am easy to work with. I communicate and get along
well with my Taiwanese co-teachers. I am quiet, hardworking, and professional. If anyone
have their own idea, I will listen and support them too. I am a polite and peaceful person.
I also practice Taichi in my free time. I only focus on doing good lesson plans, PowerPoints,
English games, teaching slow learners and help them to practice more.
